The phrase, “If thy brother trespass against thee, rebuke him,” has to do with Matthew 18:15–17. This tells us that the offended party should first of all go to the individual who has committed the wrong, and attempt to satisfy the situation. If that fails, the offended party is to take one or two witnesses with him, going again to the offender, attempting to assuage the situation.
